The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly in the eastern region, Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo has disclosed that the assembly has made provisions to give out all public toilets in the municipality to private individuals to operate.
According to him, this will help improve the revenue realisation, hygiene and sanitation in the municipality.
He made this revelation when addressing the first ordinary meeting of the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the eighth assembly of Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly today 26th June 2020.
“As part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental health and sanitation in the Municipality, the Assembly has initiated procedures to privatize all public toilets. We have advertised, interested persons who applied have been interviewed and subsequently, award letters have been given to successful applicants to begin operations next month, for a period of one year. After a year of operating these facilities, the performance of these managers will be assessed and this may affect their chances of continuing with the contract, negatively or positively. This move will ensure efficiency, hygiene and some revenue for the Assembly as well” – Hon. Kojo Ofori – Safo said.

He used the opportunity to reveal a lot of successes chalked by the assembly in his one and half years in office as the Municipal Chief executive. He added that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a big toll on us all and the world as we have always known may not return to normalcy anytime soon. It is therefore prudent that we continue to live our lives, perform our duties and go about our daily activities, albeit cautiously.
Again, he said if we strictly adhere to all the safety protocols prescribed by our health professionals, we can all be safe without having to abandon our duties or live in perpetual fear. As is evident that, the wearing of face masks, washing of hands, social distancing, the use of hand sanitisers and other measures has become the ‘new normal’ and urged all to continue living like that.
