Trent Alexander-Arnold Hits Back At Jose Mourinho’s ‘Best Team Won’ Comments

Jose Mourinho’s post-match comments about Tottenham playing better than Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night clearly didn’t go unnoticed by Jurgen Klopp’s players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram sooner after the slender 2-1 victory, posting pictures on his page and his story with the caption ‘the best team won’.

It was seemingly in response to Spurs boss Mourinho, who said he told Klopp on the final whistle that the best team had lost after Roberto Firmino scored the decisive goal for Liverpool in the 90th minute.

And Alexander-Arnold’s post was a popular one with his Liverpool team-mates.

Captain Jordan Henderson responded with the high-10 emoji, Curtis Jones replied with just the ‘speak’ emoji while Rhys Williams put ‘a little louder for those at the back.’

Liverpool looked like they would have to settle for a draw against Mourinho’s side on Wednesday at Anfield.

A deflected Mohamed Salah strike had given them a first-half lead before Heung-min Son equalised with a ruthless finish.

But Firmino snatched all three points for Liverpool with a powerful header in the 90th minute at Anfield, leaving Mourinho fuming.

He had what appeared to be a terse exchange with Klopp on the final whistle and lifted the lid on what was said in his post-match interview with Amazon Prime.

‘The best team lost and he disagreed but that’s his opinion,’ Mourinho said. ‘I think even a draw would have left us not with the best taste because we had them there to win it.

‘It was not just about the big chances it was the moments of the big chances and the moment was when they were in trouble in their worst moment and we had it there to kill it but we missed it.

‘Normally at matches at this level you pay and I thought we would pay just taking a point.

‘In the end we didn’t even take a point, so it is very disappointing. But looking at the performance I am happy with the team, with the proposal of going to a match to win it.

‘I thought in such a difficult game against such a good team the boys were very good and we got punished.’
