Ghanaian actor Majid Michel has opined that there is no movie industry in the country as many have always claimed.
According to Majid in a conversation on Joy News, he posited that to boldly say there’s a movie industry, certain elements has to be put in place to be able to call it an industry.
He mentioned that no Ghanaian movie producer can boast of a studio where there can be sets for the actors to shoot good movies and also have a distribution agency that will sell the movies to the outside world.

“When you say industry, we have to see studios, we have to see distribution agencies. What we have are individuals that through their passion create films individually. We have the Abdul Salams, the AA Productions, the Gupado films. That at the time, these people were individual businessmen that had the interest to tell stories so they used their business monies to pay us, to pay the crew to make a film.”
“And the man wants his money back so after the internet took over, he couldn’t sell the CDs anymore so he stopped because he’s a businessman the money is not coming back. But just because of his passion for stories and film they just continued.”
“But where is the industry? It was the people that were the industries, the Abdul Salam Mumin’s were the industries.
Where is the industry? Show me one studio where we can sit and set up a living room and act. show me any distribution company.”
“We’ve never had a movie industry. the industry was a group of people who came together and made films and what the people outside were seeing were good movies coming out but where are these movies coming from. they are not from any studios,” he lamented.
