Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, has defended the quality of the Black Stars squad that was eliminated from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Ghana were eliminated from the group stages without a win for the first time in the country’s history following an embarrassing 3-2 defeat to Comoros.
There has been some debate over the quality of players selected to represent Ghana, with the majority of football fans believing that there were better options left behind.
According to Citi Sports sources close to the Black Stars team, some of the squad’s senior members were disappointed by the “substandard” quality of several players called up.
Okraku, who has previously admitted to being involved in the selection process for the Black Stars squad, insists that the 28-man squad sent to Cameroon is the best in the country at the moment.
“The players we brought to the AFCON are the best we have,” he told Asempa FM in Accra.
“The Kamaldeens, Fatawus, and others are our best players.
“We must exercise patience and faith in the process. “Calm heads are required during this trying time,” he added.
Ghana finished with the joint-worst record in the competition, with just one point from three games.
