Lazy Governments Go To IMF -NPP’s Kusi Boafo

The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms who doubles as the country’s project Director for World bank, Dr Kusi Boafo has waded into the call for the NPP government to go to IMF for support.

According to the seasoned economist, only lazy governments go to IMF and would not advise the current government to go to IMF.

In a phone discussion with Obido on Radio 1, the able economist explained that government needs to rely on taxes and levies in the country other than going to IMF for support.

“We have been to Bretton Woods Institutions fifteen times and have not benefitted from it so what is the essence of going there again? Only lazy governments will go to IMF and i will never advise my government to go there. If we go there they will give us conditionality to cancel free SHS, and other policies” – Dr Kusi Boafo said.

He explained further that the nation ought to raise their money internally and must start from cancellation or reduction of Ex-gratia for Article 71 office holders.

“What we need to do is to be disciplined in our expenditure. I have even called for the cancellation or reduction of ex-gratia for article 71 office holders. Next week i’m going to lead a campaign on that” – Dr Kusi Boafo added.

He maintained that if the nation gets to IMF, employment would be frozen and history has shown that any government who goes to IMF has already 97% chances of losing the next election.
