Gospel musician and man of God Bernad Amankwah has urged upcoming musicians to desist from stealing the old songs of people.
It is not news that some artists both gospel artists and gospel musicians have been modernizing old songs and claiming them as their original songs.
According to Bernard Amankwah, most of these artists take the intellectual property of aged musicians without their consent. He described this act as wrong.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Larry Da Old Man on Onua FM’s Anigye mmere show.
“What I don’t like about today’s musicians is the way they steal people’s songs. They remix older folks’ songs without crediting them. It’s very bad on their side. Music is a spirit, and whoever wrote the song, you don’t how God gave it to him or her,” he said. –
He continued, “The song is someone’s intellectual property. So if you want to remake it, do it the right way. Go and seek his or her consent.
“Even if the owner is no more, they have families. Go and see the family and ask them politely. They may give to them for free. Sometimes you just have to credit the owner. That’s all they require.”
