Asakaa Boys made me love drill music – Black Sherif

Ismail Mohammed Sherif Artist Kwaku Frimpong, also known as Black Sherif in the entertainment industry, discussed the inspirations for his unique sound.
Blacko has been a huge success when he first appeared in the Ghanaian music industry. His recent string of hits has been mostly comprised of rehearsed songs, and they have attracted the attention of many fans.

Black Sherif said on Accra’s Asaase Radio that the Asakaa Boys from Kumasi pushed him to pursue a career in drill music after the widespread Kumerica craze.

“I would give all the credit to the Asakaa Boys because they really made drill popular all over Africa and even in Kenya they are now doing drill songs,” he said.

“I fell in love with drill music after listening to the Asakaa Boys so I would say that they influenced what I’m doing because it had some energy and vibe in there which got my attention,” Black Sherif told the host in a virtual interview from London.

There is optimism that Asakaa, also known as Ghana drill, might achieve the same level of international popularity as Nigerian Afrobeats and South African Amapiano.
