The Forestry Commission’s Kyebi District Office arrested nine illegal miners operating in the Saamang Dwaso portion of the Atewa Forest Reserve in the Eastern Region Radio1 100.7 report.

The forestry guards surrounded the nine people who were illegally mining at around 5 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, after receiving intelligence about their illegal activities.

This arrest comes just a few days after the commission set fire to an excavator and some mining equipment belonging to illegal miners who invaded the Segyimase section of the Atewa forest reserve.

Emmanuel Antwi, the Kyebi District Forestry Manager who confirmed the arrest to Radio 1 News, stated that the commission will go to any length to ensure the prosecution of all encroachers.
