Ghana doesn’t have any law that criminalizes LGBTQ+ persons — Nana Addo

The president of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo has said that Ghana does not have any law that criminalizes persons practicing LGBTQ+.
One of the debatable topics in Ghana is the legalization of the LGBTQ+ bill which is currently before Parliament. Almost every Ghanaian has stood against the passing of the bill into law.

While answering a question asked at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 27, 2023, when US Vice President Kamala Harris questioned him on the LGBTQI bill that is currently before Parliament and yet to be approved by the lawmakers.

He said: “It hasn’t been passed, so the statement that there is legislation in Ghana to that effect is not accurate.

“Parliament is dealing with it and at the end of the process, I will come in.”

The anti-LGBTQ bill, titled, “The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021”, was submitted to Parliament in June 2021.

Ghnanais are currently worried about the ongoing discussions as many are of the opinion that the president will accept the bill to be passed into law due to the financial aid the US will be giving to the country.
