According to Aide, Adwoa Safo was threatened by the US government with losing her children.

A number of upsetting incidents, including threats from the US government to seize custody of her two children, have been blamed for Sarah Adwoa Safo, a member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya, being absent from her parliamentary duties for an extended period of time.

These specifics were discussed by Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, an Adwoa Safo representative, in an interview with Kwabena Mensah Abrompah on Radio Univers on September 20, 2023.

Kissi claims that one of the causes of Adwoa Safo’s absence was a threat she received about perhaps losing custody of her kids.

He went on to say that Adwoa Safo’s loss of her newborn child soon after giving birth was another incident that contributed to her absence.

When Adwoa Safo, the assistant who provided the narration, traveled to the US, she was presented with the threat that “if she doesn’t take care, her children will be taken from her. The children are two; one male and one female, and it is the male who has the difficulty (medical condition).

“You see, the white culture and ours are two different things; they have a way of caring for kids, ladies, and animals, but when you come here, it is different, so the whites were serious about that,”

“The issue overpowered her, she thought it was something minor but when she went and realized the severe nature of it, and how her child had been going to the hospital to-and-fro, her own father and her family even lost communication with her.

“The issue took over her life to the extent that she didn’t know what to do because going to give birth and losing your child and your other one is also having a problem but God was able to intervene on her behalf, so, it is all about pleading with everybody for forgiveness.”

The former gender minister, meanwhile, this week finally spoke up about her protracted absence from the legislature.

She made an unreserved apology to her party and its participants while outlining the difficulties she and her family through personally at the time.

Adwoa Safo expressed sincere regret for any inconvenience she may have caused and accepted that her absence was inadvertent.
