At the age of 2, my father was murdered in front of me, says musician Teni

The murder of her father, the late Brigadier General Simeon Apata (rtd), in her presence, according to Nigerian musician Teniola Apata, nicknamed Teni Makaniki, had a profound impact on her.

Teni revealed during an interview with media personality Taymesan that she was just two years old when armed men broke into their home in Lagos and killed her father in front of the family. The singer of “Uyo Meyo” continued by saying that because of how this damaged her upbringing, she has since struggled with trust.

Teni remarked, “Growing up with my father passing at such a young age, the trauma of losing my father at such a young age affected me,” in the interview, which the host Taymesan posted on Instagram on Sunday.

“You know, him getting killed in front of us all and all that stuff. I was 2 years old at the time.

“His departure took away a father figure from me. Growing up, it kind of gave me trust difficulties. Considering that they [the gunman] entered our home on purpose to assassinate him.

On January 8, 1995, a man named Brig. Gen. Simeon Apata (rtd.) was killed.
