According to Asaaseradio, the Ghana Police Service has taken the action of detaining COP George Alex Mensah, the former director general of the technical division, as part of an ongoing investigation into an allegedly leaked audio recording that included discussions about the ouster of IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The report states that on September 6, 2023, COP George Alex Mensah received formal notification of his interdiction.
This development follows increased scrutiny of the recording that was leaked, which has caused grave worries about the internal operations of the police force.
COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, are the focus of an investigation being conducted by an ad hoc committee that was constituted by Parliament.
These people allegedly met in Naabu’s office in Osu to discuss a strategy for IGP Dampare’s removal.
