John Mahama Inspires Canadian Audience With Vision For A Prosperous Ghana

In a captivating speech delivered at the University of Calgary, amidst the rich display of Ghanaian culture by the Royal Cultural Dancers of Calgary, former President John Mahama of Ghana enthralled a packed University of Calgary auditorium with his vision for the future of Ghana and the opportunities it offers for investors, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts.

In a packed hall, the event was attended by University of Calgary Leaders, Deans, Professors, and students from diverse backgrounds, all eager to hear the insights and aspirations of a leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s recent history.

Former President Mahama began his address by praising Ghana as a thriving example of peaceful democracy in Africa. He emphasized the country’s successful democratic transitions and its commitment to the rule of law, highlighting the stable political environment that makes Ghana an attractive destination for investment and business.

One of the central themes of President Mahama’s speech was the vibrant landscape of rapidly growing businesses in Ghana, particularly in the FINTECH and technological services sectors. He underlined the potential for investors to participate in these burgeoning industries, which hold promise in elevating Ghana’s status as a middle-income country.

“Today, Ghana is not just a land of opportunities, but a hub for innovation, technology, and economic growth,” President Mahama stated, while inviting international investors to explore and invest in the thriving Ghanaian business ecosystem. He further stressed that Ghana is on the way out of the economic woe of the pandemic and he can see a better economic stability for businesses to thrive.

A day earlier, the former President also demonstrated his commitment to promoting Ghana as a desired destination for tourism, business, and culture. He recounted his recent meeting with the Alberta business community and thousands of Ghanaians and Africans in Western Canada, during which he showcased the numerous attractions that Ghana has to offer.

Furthermore, President Mahama stressed the importance of fostering a politically healthy platform for the younger generation to learn from and engage in conversations that prioritize Ghana over political parties. This message aligns with his vision for a united Ghana that transcends political divisions and works towards common goals for the betterment of the nation. He said Ghanaian leadership cannot do business as usual and expect a different outcome. The time for a renewed leadership of accountability is now.

The President of the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Calgary, Dr. Charles Odame-Ankrah, warmly welcomed President Mahama and expressed hope that his influence and good office would create the foundation for productive dialogues among the youth, enabling them to take a patriotic and non-partisan approach to discussions about their nation’s future.
