CAFWCL 2023: Ampem Darkoa Ladies guaranteed $200,000 for semis qualification

Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies are set to receive at least $200,000 after sealing a place in the semifinal of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The WAFU B champions secured a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea side Huracanes Football Club to ensure they made it out of Group B having lost one and won another in their first two group games.

Tracey Twum scored a brace before substitute N-Yanimaya Gnabekan wrapped things up after being put through on goal by the former late in the game.

Advancing to the knockout stage of the competition means, Joe Nana Adarkwa’s girls are assured a whopping $200,000 as prize money in their debut appearance.

The Ghanaian side, however, has an opportunity to fight for more heading into the last four of the competition.

A place in the final will mean they receive at least $250,000 in total if they finish as runners up while winning the third edition of the competition will mean they take home the coveted trophy as well as a cash prize of $400,000.

Prize money for the competition was introduced last year during the second edition in Morocco after no money was involved in the maiden edition in Egypt back in 2021.

Ampem Darkoa will face fellow debutants Sporting Club Casablanca in the semifinal on Wednesday, November 15, looking to seal a place in the last two.
