Dam Spillage: Kick politics out – NADMO

Mr. David Sosu Brown, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) director of Asougyaman, has said that the spillage of the Akosombo dam in the Voolta region should not be politicized.

The spillage began a week ago and has had a huge effect. Which has rendered several residents
homeless and more than thousands of houses to sink out of sight in flood waters since the spillage.

The spillage has affected almost all communities along the lower Volta Basin, resulting in widespread
power cuts, and the distraction of farm crops, and water bodies.

Initially, the maximum level of water in the Akosombo Dam should be 276 feet, and as of the 12th,
In 2020, it was around 276.92, or 84.405 meters.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Kwabena Addo on “Oman Mu Nsem”, a political talk show on Radio 1,
100.7 . He emphasizes the cause of the heavy downpours of rain and the high inflow of water into
Akosombo Dam reservoir, resulting in the water level exceeding its upper level.

He explained that, despite the huge effect, there has been little approach to solving it, and this has led to the plea from MPs, directors, and members of the community to come to their aid.

Mr. David Sosu Brown indicated that “there is no politics in the ongoing spillage on the Akosombo Dam, but rather he entreats all the stakeholders, NGOs, and individuals to come on board to solve the
situation.”
