Anti-LGBTQ bill: Gay lawyers in Ghana exposed

Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has said he would not speak for lawyers who are practicing homosexuality.

He says that the lawyers practicing homosexuality should gather the courage and come out publicly to speak for themselves.

Kpebu indicated that there are several gay lawyers in Ghana who should be standing up for their fellow gay practitioners.

“You are practicing the thing [homosexuality] and you want me to speak for you. There are several lawyers who are gays and they should come out and speak for themselves, “Kepbu said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday Febraury 24.

The controversial anti-LGBTQ bill, named, Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, is only one step away from passage after Parliament concluded the consideration stage.

Parliament has postponed the ratification of the bill titled “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values,” commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill, to Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

This decision aligns with the house’s updated standing orders, which mandate a gap of at least one sitting day before the third reading of a bill.

This development comes on the heels of the second review of the bill, which aims to outlaw LGBT activities and penalize their promotion, advocacy, and funding.
