Bawumia to empower small scale miners

Flagbearer for The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, outlined a comprehensive plan for the mining sector, focusing on fostering responsible small-scale mining, environmental protection, and boosting national gold reserves.

Dr. Bawumia aims to transform the one million Ghanaians in small-scale mining into “millionaires” by Providing capacity building and equipment access, formalizing and licensing responsible miners.Decentralizing regulatory bodies for easier access.

Establishing community mining schemes on abandoned shafts, introducing a pension scheme and skills training, protecting the Environment. The plan emphasizes responsible mining practices, no mining in rivers or water bodies, equipment only seized for license violations government funding for land reclamation.

Establishment of common-user gold processing units, boosting National Gold Reserves, the initiative aims to increase Ghana’s gold reserves by, encouraging exploration by abolishing VAT on related services.

Establishing a Minerals Development Bank and an LBMA-certified gold refinery, requiring responsible small-scale gold to be sold to the central bank or designated entities for refining before export.

By empowering small miners, protecting the environment, and increasing national gold reserves, Dr. Bawumia’s vision seeks to create a more sustainable and prosperous mining sector for Ghana.
