Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu resigns as Majority Leader

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has stepped down from his position with immediate effect.

This follows a crunch meeting of the majority caucus on Wednesday evening at the Jubilee House convened by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

There had been reports of an impending reshuffle at the leadership of the Majority caucus in Parliament which suggested that Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was taking over from the veteran Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Kodua, is expected to officially announce changes at the leadership front within 24 hours.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin on Wednesday in interpreting the Standing Orders of Parliament, stated that caucus members cannot independently determine leadership positions, without an imput from the party.
