Woman caught with cocaine jailed ten years in Asamankese

The Asamankese Circuit Court Presided Over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 28-year-old Woman,Diana Yaago to ten years imprisonment in hard for Possessing Narcotic Drug, Contrary to Section 37(1) and 2(b) of Narcotic Control Act 2020(Act 1019).

Diana Yaago was also fined 10,000 Penalty Units(¢120,000), in default, she will serve three years imprisonment, all sentences to run concurrently.

A prosecution Statement from the Akwatia Police Command said the Complainants are Police Officers stationed at Akyem-Wenkyi whilst
accused Diana Yaago aged 28 years is a trader and a resident of Wenkyi.

It said On 24/6/2022 at about 5:35 am, Police Akyem-Wenkyi, acting upon intelligence got information that the accused was selling some substances suspected to be cocaine in the town so they
proceeded to the house of the accused and arrested her.

When her room was searched in her presence, A= twenty-one plain polythene wrappers with white rocky substances and B= one hundred and forty blue paper wrappers of brown
powdery substances were found concealed in a small plastic container.

During interrogation, the accused claimed ownership of the exhibits.

She was subsequently brought to the station together with the exhibits for further investigations.

The exhibits were sealed in the presence of the accused person and sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory, Accra for testing and report.

The test result dated 15/09/2022 was received which stated that exhibit A tested positive for cocaine
with its Net weight of 2.6705g while exhibit B tested positive for Heroin with its Net weight of 14.2128g.

After investigation accused person was charged with the offences and arraigned before this honourable court.
