Antoine Semenyo strikes to sink Burnley

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo proved to be the hero as his stunning strike secured a remarkable victory for Bournemouth, dealing a significant blow to Burnley’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Bournemouth, eager to break their winless streak in 2024, got off to a flying start with Justin Kluivert’s powerful finish past Burnley’s James Trafford, capitalising on defensive lapses.

Despite Burnley’s strong response, with Neto making an outstanding save and Vitinho missing a good chance, Bournemouth held firm.

David Datro Fofana and Jacob Bruun Larsen tested the Bournemouth defense, with Larsen’s goalbound shot blocked by Adam Smith after Neto’s denial. The frustration for Burnley increased when Josh Cullen’s goal was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up.

In the 88th minute, Antoine Semenyo put the game beyond doubt with a great finish, securing his fifth Premier League goal of the season and sealing Bournemouth’s first win in 2024.

The result leaves Burnley in a precarious position, sitting 11 points adrift of safety with only 11 games remaining. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s victory lifted them to 13th place and sets a positive tone ahead of four successive home games.

Antoine Semenyo’s goal-scoring prowess continues to be a vital asset for Bournemouth, and his decisive strike could prove instrumental in their battle for a strong finish to the season.
