CAF Champions League: Medeama bow out with defeat in Algeria

Medeama SC suffered a 3-0 defeat in their final CAF Champions League group stage match against CR Belouizdad on Friday evening in Algeria.

Despite both teams being eliminated from the competition, the home side displayed great determination and gave their fans a memorable performance.

Belouizdad dominated the game and took revenge for their 2-1 loss to Medeama in the previous encounter between the two sides.

Midfielder Abdelraouf Benguit opened the scoring in the 27th minute, before Cameroonian forward Leonel Wamba doubled the lead. Gambian attacker Lamin Jallow sealed the victory with the third goal.

In another match, Al Ahly defeated Young Africans 1-0, with both teams advancing to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, Medeama’s journey came to an end, along with that of Belouizdad.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Medeama can take pride in their debut campaign, having reached the group stage after overcoming difficult challenges in the qualifying rounds, including a famous victory over Guinean giants AC Horoya.
