I am surprised no gospel artiste is ready to support the LGBTQ+ fight – Foh Amoaning

The Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Moses Foh-Amoaning has expressed surprise over why gospel artistes in the country are not publicly supporting the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

He has criticised the gospel artistes for not writing songs in support of the fight against the activities of Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people in the country.

The Parliament of Ghana on February 28 unanimously passed the anti-LGBTQ+ bill after it had gone through nearly three years of deliberation.

The Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill aims at criminalising the activities of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.

It imposes a prison sentence of up to three years for anyone convicted of identifying as LGBTQ+.

Mr Foh-Amoaning, who was speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s Testimony Hour show on March 3, wondered why gospel musicians have failed to compose songs to help demand the barring LGBTQ+ activities by President Akufo-Addo.

“I am really surprised that upon all the gospel artists we have in Ghana, none of them has been inspired by God to write a song to speak against the activities of LGBTQ+”.

We have top notch artistes like Joe Mettle, Dianna Antwi Hamilton and the rest, yet it hasn’t appeared to them to sing a song or a line in their songs to support the LGBTQ+ fight, the veteran journalist and lawyer bewailed.

He quizzed why these same artistes are able to write songs concerning things happening in the country, yet they are mute over LGBTQ+.

Mr Foh-Amoaning urged the gospel fraternity to speak up to get President Akufo-Addo to assent to bill into law.
