Leave a good legacy by assenting to LGBTQ+ Bill – Chief Imam tells Akufo-Addo

The Chief Imam, through his spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu noted that, the President has to assent to the bill in order to protect the Ghanaian family system and to promote the cohesion within the Ghanaian family relations.

Speaking on United Television’s (UTV) with Yaa Konamah, the Chief Imam expressed his greatest disappointment in the ongoing impasse over the passage of the bill, which according to him, if not passed will affect the Ghanaian family.

“I am worried over the Ghana I will be leaving behind. At my age of 104, I do not need anything. All I want is a safe Ghana whose family system will be protected and preserved. The LGBTQ is a dirty lifestyle. Whoever claims it is genetic will not be telling the truth. It is an acquired lifestyle which should not be promoted in Ghana. There has not been any scientific research to prove that such a lifestyle is genetic.”

Sheikh Aremeyaw added that, the pressure being mounted by the gay communities on the President not to assent to the bill is a great threat to the survival of the Ghanaian family system.

“The family was instituted by God with the mandate to procreate. Procreation is done by a man and a woman. Since when did a man and man, or a woman and another woman met to procreate?. This is abominable and should not be tolerated at any point in time,” he added.

When asked by the host if there had been a broader consultation before the passage of the bill, the Spokesperson for the Chief Imam added that the bill had been subjected to thorough scrutiny through a broader consultation across the length and breadth of the country including all religious and civil organisations.

Commenting on the assertion that Ghana is a Theocratic state, Sheikh Shaibu noted that, secularism is not equivalent to godlessness.

He, therefore, encouraged the President to assent to the bill without delay.
