National Cathedral has robbed Ghana’s coffers – Prophet Kofi Oduro criticises gov’t

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the leader and founder of Alabaster International Ministry, has criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government over the National Cathedral project.

Prophet Oduro expressed great displeasure over the project, stating that “the National Cathedral has robbed the coffers of Ghana.”

He therefore questioned the presence of God at Jubilee House, the seat of government.

“Where is God in government? Where does God stand in the Jubilee House? Does our President fear God? Why is it that this National Cathedral has robbed this nation’s coffers?” the prolific preacher quizzed, adding, “58 million dollars [spent] and all we have is a pit, a bit hole.”

The church leader also lashed out at the government for using the National Cathedral project as a conduit to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the board of trustees, who are respected religious leaders in the country.

He continued: “58 million dollars…where is God in that? You have stolen to the point that even building a house for God, for the past four years we draw our bow and put a chain on the neck of fathers with hard-earned reputations people [who] have served the Lord for years without any dent—we made them trustees, and we go behind them and steal.”

Prophet further chided the government for giving Ghanaians what he described as “a manhole,”  adding, “I am a builder if you give me 58 million dollars, I will give you a structure.”

The project, which began in 2021, has since been stalled.

Even before the National Cathedral project is completed, former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta announced a date for the commissioning in July 2021. Ken Ofori-Atta said that the Cathedral was going to be commissioned on March 6, 2024.

Three years down the line, the Cathedral is at foundation level, with some US$58 million expended.

Meanwhile, governance and leadership expert Prof. Enoch Opoku Antwi has also raised concerns over the National Cathedral project. He noted that the project has been “shrouded in secrecy, confusion and drama.”

Speaking on The Key Points on Saturday, March 9, Prof. Antwi noted that in leadership, “culture is very key, strategy is important, innovation is imperative, communication is vital and execution is everything.”

He stressed that when the President wants to execute any project using public funds, he should undertake such projects in public trust.
