The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has convened the First Quarter meeting of the Livelihoods, Food and Nutrition Security in Emergencies (LFSiE) Technical Working Group at its headquarters in Accra.

The two-day meeting focused on enhancing coordinated disaster response and recovery efforts across the country. Discussions centred on updates regarding major disasters recorded from 2025 to date, a review of recovery interventions undertaken by key institutions, and contributions toward the development of a comprehensive livelihoods needs assessment tool to guide future planning and evidence-based interventions nationwide.

Addressing participants, the Director-General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), called on stakeholders to reflect on lessons learned from disasters experienced last year and to critically assess their collective performance.
He stressed the importance of strengthening preparedness measures, particularly as Ghana approaches the peak of the flood season.

“We must draw practical lessons from our experiences and sharpen our response strategies to better protect lives and livelihoods,” he stated.
Also speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dominique Reumkens, Resilience Specialist and representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustained collaboration with NADMO and its partners.

“FAO is committed to building on these ongoing collaborations and engagements to support Ghana in strengthening resilient livelihoods and agri-food systems, thereby ensuring food and nutrition security for all Ghanaians,” he noted.

The meeting brought together representatives from key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), relevant United Nations agencies, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs), financial institutions and private sector actors who form part of the LFSiE Technical Working Group.
