The Government of Egypt has donated 9,500 doses of hepatitis C vaccines, valued at approximately $80,000, to the Government of Ghana in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and advancing healthcare collaboration across Africa.
Presenting the donation, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ghana, Wael Fathy Ahmed, described the gesture as a testament to the deepening partnership between the two countries. He underscored the importance of African nations supporting one another, particularly in addressing shared public health challenges.

Reflecting on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ambassador noted that Africa was among the last regions to access vaccines, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced continental cooperation. He stressed that stronger partnerships would reduce reliance on external aid and improve Africa’s capacity to respond to health crises.

Mr. Ahmed further indicated that Ghana and Egypt could expand their collaboration beyond donations to include pharmaceutical development and local vaccine manufacturing, positioning both countries to better meet future healthcare demands.

Receiving the consignment on behalf of the government, the Deputy Minister for Health, Grace Ayensu-Danquah, expressed gratitude for the timely support, especially amid declining global aid.
She emphasized that the donation exemplifies the value of intra-African solidarity and noted Ghana’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt across key areas of the health sector.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah added that such partnerships are critical to enhancing healthcare delivery and achieving long-term health sovereignty across the continent, ensuring sustainable access to essential medicines and vaccines.
The vaccines were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Health Service for nationwide distribution and administration.
- The donation marks another milestone in the growing health sector collaboration between Ghana and Egypt, as both countries continue to build resilient systems capable of addressing present and future public health challenges.
