Delivering the keynote address, the Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and authority to support commanders in achieving their targets. She underscored the critical role of agriculture in inmate rehabilitation, noting that it equips inmates with valuable skills for self-reliance and successful reintegration into society.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie further highlighted the importance of modernising and mechanising prison farms, calling for the adoption of innovative and climate-resilient agricultural practices. She also assured participants of her support in establishing irrigation systems to facilitate year-round farming.

The Director-General stressed the need for a collective approach, emphasising that agricultural production should not be limited to designated officers but embraced as a shared responsibility across the Service.

The conference concluded with an interactive session during which participants examined operational challenges and shared best practices. Regional Commanders reaffirmed their commitment to improving efficiency and increasing crop yields across all prison farms in the coming year.
