The Government of Spain, through its Embassy in Ghana, has engaged the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to deepen collaboration on educational opportunities for Ghanaian women under the 2026–2027 Learn Africa Programme.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Women for Africa Foundation, aims to support African women professionals in pursuing postgraduate studies at Spanish universities. The programme focuses on building capacity and promoting women’s leadership across the continent.

During the engagement, Spain’s Ambassador to Ghana, Angel Lossada, disclosed that the programme offers 100 scholarships across Africa. These cover master’s degrees, doctoral programmes, research opportunities and other specialised postgraduate courses.

He noted that the initiative targets women who have already completed tertiary education and are seeking to advance their academic and professional development, ultimately contributing to strengthened human capital and development outcomes in their home countries.

In response, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, expressed appreciation for the initiative and the opportunity extended to Ghana. She observed that the programme aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to empower women through education and capacity building.

The Minister further assured that efforts would be made to ensure that eligible candidates—particularly professionals, individuals within tertiary institutions and those from disadvantaged backgrounds—are able to access and benefit from the scholarships.

The Learn Africa Programme continues to serve as a strategic platform for advancing academic excellence, professional development and international cooperation, while promoting women’s empowerment across Africa.
