The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has inaugurated its maiden Ambassadors’ Chat Series, a new initiative designed to foster knowledge-sharing and professional development among its officers.
The inaugural session, held on April 28, 2026, featured centenarian diplomat Richard Maximillian Akwei, one of Ghana’s pioneering Foreign Service Officers who played a key role in shaping the country’s early diplomatic trajectory.

According to the Ministry, the Chat Series aims to provide an informal yet impactful platform for serving officers to engage with retired ambassadors, drawing on their wealth of experience to deepen institutional knowledge and strengthen diplomatic practice.

During the session, Ambassador Akwei reflected on Ghana’s foreign policy evolution since independence, highlighting the country’s involvement in Africa’s liberation struggles and its contributions to major international groupings, including the Organisation of African Unity—now the African Union—as well as the Non-Aligned Movement.

He also shared personal experiences from his time working with Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, describing the period as both challenging and inspiring as the country established its voice on the global stage.
Beyond historical reflections, the veteran diplomat offered insights into current global developments, their implications for national policy, and the evolving expectations of international organisations.
Ambassador Akwei commended the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as well as the Ministry’s leadership, for introducing the initiative. He praised the Minister’s leadership and efforts in advancing Ghana’s foreign policy agenda.

The Ministry described the maiden edition of the Ambassadors’ Chat Series as engaging and insightful, expressing optimism that the platform will become a cornerstone for mentorship and continuous learning within Ghana’s diplomatic service.
