Ghana has officially commenced the sixth review of its ongoing programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), marking a critical step in the country’s economic recovery efforts.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson received an IMF mission team led by Dr. Ruben Atoyan in Accra, where he described Ghana’s reform journey since the 2022 economic crisis as “transformative” and indicative of significant progress.
According to the Minister, the IMF-supported programme has played a pivotal role in stabilising the economy, restoring policy credibility, and rebuilding public confidence. However, he cautioned against complacency, emphasising the need to consolidate gains while advancing to the next phase of reforms.
“Progress does not permit complacency,” Dr. Forson stated, underscoring government’s commitment to sustaining macroeconomic stability.

He noted that the government will intensify efforts to implement policies that promote private sector growth, with a strategic focus on translating economic stability into increased investment, job creation, and expanded opportunities for citizens.
Dr. Forson further indicated that key policy decisions are expected before the conclusion of the IMF mission, which will help shape the next phase of Ghana’s economic reform agenda.
The IMF team, in its initial assessment, described the sixth review as a significant milestone and commended Ghana for the progress achieved under the programme so far.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Chief Director Patrick Nomo, Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Asiama, and First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni.
