The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blue Ventures Conservation to bolster sustainable fisheries management in Ghana, marking a significant step toward protecting marine resources and promoting responsible fishing practices.

The partnership underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient fisheries sector while addressing challenges such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. It is also expected to enhance collaboration across policy development, enforcement, research, and community engagement.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Ventures Conservation, Ebrima Saidy, commended the Ministry for its leadership in advancing sustainability within the sector.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to work closely with key stakeholders to deliver meaningful impact and extended an invitation to Ghana to participate in the Our Ocean Conference 2026 scheduled for June 2026 in Kenya.

In remarks delivered on behalf of the Ministry, officials expressed appreciation to the Blue Ventures team and reiterated their commitment to forging strategic partnerships that drive sustainable outcomes. Emphasis was placed on prioritising compliance over enforcement as a more effective approach to tackling IUU fishing.

The MoU aligns with Ghana’s national development priorities and broader global conservation goals, positioning the country to strengthen governance in the fisheries sector while safeguarding livelihoods dependent on marine ecosystems.
