Government Inaugurates New GAPTE Council to Drive Urban Transport Reforms in Accra

The Government of Ghana has inaugurated the fourth Executive Council of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), in a renewed effort to transform urban mobility across the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area.

The inauguration was led by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, who reaffirmed government’s commitment to developing a coordinated, efficient, and sustainable public transport system.


The newly constituted Council is tasked with driving innovative and inclusive transport solutions, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and enhancing the delivery of mass transit services, including the Aayalolo system.

With a clear strategic mandate, the Council is expected to play a critical role in reducing traffic congestion, improving commuter experience, and supporting key national development initiatives such as the government’s 24-hour economy policy.


The government, together with key stakeholders, has reiterated its commitment to building a modern, reliable, and environmentally sustainable urban transport network that improves the quality of life for residents across Accra.
