Nsawam Municipal Assembly Tours Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Assesses Rehabilitation Facilities

Nsawam, April 24, 2026 — The Nsawam Municipal Assembly has undertaken a working visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to assess conditions at the facility and inspect its rehabilitation and skills development centres.

The delegation, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Philbert Fumey, toured key vocational and educational units within the prison, including the tailoring shop, smock-weaving unit, carpentry workshop, and the prison school, with particular focus on the school of draughtsmanship.

The visit was coordinated by the Officer in Charge and Eastern Regional Commander, DDP Patrick Thomas Seidu, with support from DDP Samuel K. Adzewodah and DDP Vitalis Aiyeh. The Municipal Engineer, who formed part of the delegation, provided technical insights throughout the inspection.

During the tour, officials observed structured vocational training and academic programmes designed to equip inmates with practical skills while promoting discipline and rehabilitation.

A notable moment during the visit was the Municipal Engineer’s commendation of the high level of technical proficiency demonstrated by inmates in the draughtsmanship school. He remarked that the quality of their design work appeared to surpass typical training standards under the National Vocational Training Institute, suggesting the use of advanced tools and techniques.

The Municipal Chief Executive and his team expressed appreciation for the prison’s rehabilitation efforts and the dedication of its officers to inmate reform. They also indicated the Assembly’s readiness to support improvements in infrastructure and training programmes, reaffirming confidence in the facility’s rehabilitation initiatives and prospects for sustained collaboration.
