Hon. Abdul Rahman, Assembly Member for the Osiem Ahenbronum Electoral Area, has been elected as the new Presiding Member of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly following a decisive run-off election held today.

The election followed an earlier inconclusive vote in which neither of the two candidates secured the constitutionally required two-thirds majority of 17 votes needed to win the position.

The contest featured the incumbent Presiding Member, Hon. William Adu Obiri, Assembly Member for Anyinasin Electoral Area, and Hon. Abdul Rahman. All assembly members, including government appointees, were present and participated in the voting process.
In the first round of voting, Hon. Abdul Rahman obtained 15 votes, while Hon. William Adu Obiri secured 10 votes. Since neither candidate met the required threshold, the assembly prepared for a second round.

Ahead of the run-off, negotiations were reportedly led by the NDC Constituency Chairman and the Municipal Chief Executive in support of Hon. Abdul Rahman. Following the discussions, Hon. William Adu Obiri withdrew from the race, paving the way for Hon. Abdul Rahman to contest unopposed.
The assembly subsequently endorsed Hon. Abdul Rahman as the new Presiding Member, officially bringing the election process to a close.

As Presiding Member, Hon. Abdul Rahman is expected to chair assembly meetings and provide leadership in overseeing the legislative and administrative functions of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly during his tenure.
