PRESS RELEASE:

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued a formal apology following public backlash over comments suggesting that postings to Northern Ghana could be perceived as punitive.

In a statement released to clarify the issue, the Minister explained that the remarks, captured in a widely circulated video, were a “genuine slip in communication” and do not reflect her actual views or the official policies guiding staff postings within the Public Service.

According to her, the comments were made in response to a media question regarding allegations that some technocrats involved in issuing development permits without due process are often reposted within nearby districts, allowing such practices to continue.

She noted that, in addressing the concern, she referenced instances where individuals had been reassigned to locations far from their usual places of residence. However, she acknowledged that her wording created an unintended impression that such postings were meant as punishment.

“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns that this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the Northern Regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” the statement said.

The Minister further reaffirmed her commitment to fairness, professionalism, and adherence to due process in all administrative decisions, including staff postings and transfers.

She also assured the public of her dedication to serving the people of the Greater Accra Region with integrity and accountability, urging that the matter be considered clarified.
