MoGCSP Rallies Support for Ghana’s UNCRPD Expert Committee Nominee

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has reaffirmed government’s commitment to backing Ghana’s campaign for a seat on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) Expert Committee.

The Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, gave the assurance during a courtesy call by Ghana’s nominee, Mawunyo Kuma Yakor-Dagbah, alongside representatives from the disability community and key stakeholders.
The delegation included officials from the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations and the National Council on Persons with Disabilities, among others.

The meeting focused on outlining Ghana’s campaign strategy and mapping out the way forward ahead of the international engagement process.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Yakor-Dagbah expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its continued support and encouragement. She explained that the engagement was intended to formally brief the Ministry on the campaign roadmap, strengthen coordination efforts, and explore strategic avenues to enhance Ghana’s bid on the global stage.

She emphasised the need for strong collaboration among stakeholders to secure a successful election onto the UNCRPD Expert Committee.

In response, Dr. Lartey congratulated the nominee and reiterated government’s readiness to provide the necessary diplomatic and institutional backing to advance Ghana’s candidature.

She highlighted the broader significance of Ghana securing representation on the UNCRPD Expert Committee, noting that it would amplify the country’s voice in global disability rights governance and reinforce national efforts toward inclusion and social protection.

Discussions also centred on intensifying international campaign engagements, improving stakeholder coordination, and boosting visibility for Ghana’s candidature ahead of the election.
