The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the immediate temporary suspension of three pharmacies from participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) following the detection of alleged irregularities during a routine claims verification exercise.

In a public notice issued on May 14, 2026, the NHIA stated that the affected facilities are:

DELDEM Pharma Limited, located at Iron City in Weija

Paramedica Pharmacy, located on Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma

Desh Chemist, located along Odumase High Street in Amasaman

According to the Authority, the suspension takes effect immediately and follows findings of “material irregularities in claims and service transactions” linked to the facilities.
The NHIA noted that the anomalies have raised “reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse” under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.

As part of the suspension, the affected pharmacies are prohibited from providing services or dispensing medicines under the NHIS until further notice.
The Authority has therefore advised NHIS members seeking pharmaceutical services to visit other credentialed NHIS service providers across the country.

The NHIA also issued a strong warning to all accredited healthcare providers, stressing that fraudulent practices that threaten the sustainability of the Scheme will not be tolerated.

It further reminded providers that under the law, any healthcare provider who defrauds or attempts to defraud the NHIS commits an offence and may, upon summary conviction, face a fine, imprisonment of up to ten years, or both.

“The NHIA remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public funds in delivering accessible and quality healthcare to all residents of Ghana,” the statement added.
The notice was signed by the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Victor Asare Bampoe.
