The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has confirmed the death of another Ghanaian pilgrim during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, bringing the total number of Ghanaian fatalities recorded this year to three.

In a statement released on May 29, PAOG said the deceased, Hajia Kubura Salifu, aged 52, died in Mina after falling critically ill shortly after completing the Arafat ritual, one of the key rites of the annual pilgrimage.

The Office indicated that her family has been officially informed of the unfortunate development. In line with Islamic customs for pilgrims who die during Hajj, she was buried in Saudi Arabia.

PAOG expressed its deepest sympathies to her family, friends and loved ones, praying for strength and comfort for them as they mourn their loss.

The Office also highlighted the religious significance attached to such deaths, noting that within Islamic belief, pilgrims who die during Hajj, particularly in Mina, are regarded as continuing to receive the spiritual rewards of their pilgrimage until the Day of Judgment.
