An estimated 50 cartons of shea butter oil spilled onto the Accra–Kumasi Highway after a tanker developed a fault near Misa Fuel Station at Ntoaso in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred when a DAF XF tanker transporting shea butter oil from Tema to Techiman suffered a mechanical failure during its journey. Reports indicate that the vehicle’s discharge valve broke, causing a significant quantity of oil to leak onto the road surface.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded swiftly to the emergency after receiving a distress call.
Firefighters confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded. To prevent the oil from spreading further and creating additional risks for motorists and the environment, the crew applied foam concentrate to contain the spill.
