A poultry farmer in Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region has appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other government agencies for assistance after floodwaters from Monday’s heavy rainfall wiped out almost all the birds on his farm.

The farmer said the intense downpour led to severe flooding within the poultry facility, resulting in the death of nearly his entire flock, with only one chicken surviving the disaster.

He explained that the incident has caused substantial financial losses, wiping out years of investment and placing his source of livelihood at risk.

Speaking in a video shared on social media after the flooding, the visibly distressed farmer appealed to authorities for urgent support to help him rebuild his business.

“I have lost almost all my birds. Only one survived the flooding. I am appealing to the government and NADMO to support me so I can recover from this disaster,” he said.

The appeal comes as several parts of Greater Accra continue to assess the impact of Monday’s heavy rains, which triggered widespread flooding, claimed lives, displaced residents and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and other properties.
