Accra, June 14, 2026 – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) School Selection Exercise will officially commence on Monday, June 15, 2026.

The exercise is aimed at allowing BECE candidates to submit their preferred Senior High Schools (SHSs) ahead of the placement process. Each candidate is required to select five (5) schools for consideration.

According to the GES, there is currently no deadline for the submission of school choices. Candidates, parents, and guardians are therefore encouraged to carefully assess available options and make informed decisions based on academic interests, career aspirations, and preferred programmes of study.

School selections can be submitted through the official online portal or via the GES WhatsApp support service. Candidates and parents seeking assistance or clarification can contact the support team on 020 436 7057.

The Service explained that final school placements will be based on a combination of candidates’ BECE performance, their selected school choices, and the availability of vacancies in the various schools.

GES further noted that the current exercise is intended to facilitate early preparation and data collection before the release of the 2026 BECE results. A second phase of the exercise will be conducted after the results are released to review and finalise school placements in line with candidates’ academic performance and available placement opportunities.

Parents, guardians, and candidates are encouraged to participate early and ensure that all information submitted is accurate and complete.

The announcement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, on behalf of the Management of the Ghana Education Service.
