The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert, warning that thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to affect several parts of Southern Ghana from this morning through to the afternoon.

According to GMet’s weather forecast released on Monday, ongoing rainfall along sections of the coast and some inland communities is likely to persist during the day, with varying levels of intensity.

The Agency further indicated that patches of mist and fog are expected over forested and mountainous areas, which could reduce visibility in some locations.

“A weak to moderate rainstorm sighted along the coast of Togo-Benin is anticipated to propagate westward, bringing increased cloud cover and triggering thunderstorms with rain over southern Ghana from this morning into the afternoon hours,” the forecast stated.

In view of the expected weather conditions, GMet has urged residents in southern parts of the country to remain vigilant and prepare for possible thunderstorms as well as moderate to heavy rainfall.

The Agency also advised motorists to exercise caution on the roads due to poor visibility caused by rain and fog. Residents living in flood-prone and low-lying communities have been encouraged to take necessary precautions against possible flash floods.
