Government and Bono Chiefs Deepen Partnership to Advance Regional Development

Efforts to accelerate development in the Bono Region has received a significant boost as government has affirmed its commitment to the the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to deliver key infrastructure and social intervention projects across the region.

The assurance was given during the President’s engagement with the Honor Regional House of Chiefs which was facilitated by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Wednesday, 17th June, 2026 ay the Jubilee House.

The engagement provided an opportunity for traditional leaders to present pressing concerns affecting their communities while strengthening collaboration between government and the chieftaincy institution.

Led by the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, the delegation raised issues relating to chieftaincy disputes, road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and the proposed Bono Regional Airport.

Welcoming the chiefs on behalf of Government, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, underscored the critical role of traditional authorities in promoting peace, social cohesion and local development, noting that sustained engagement remains essential for responsive governance and national progress.

Responding to the concerns, President Mahama outlined a range of ongoing and planned interventions, including major road projects under the Big Push infrastructure programme, investments in healthcare facilities and medical training, expansion of educational infrastructure to eliminate the double-track system, and agricultural initiatives under the 24-hour economy programme.

The President also assured the chiefs that processes toward the establishment of the Bono Regional Airport are advancing and reiterated government’s commitment to seeing the project through.
