The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has officially presented the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Certificate for the proposed Port of Keta to the Overlord of the Anlo State, Togbui Sri III, marking a major milestone in the project’s development.
The presentation took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and was led by the Director-General of GPHA, Major General Paul Seidu-Tenye Kulono, together with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Kulono described the Environmental Protection Authority’s approval of the EIA as a significant breakthrough that clears the path for GPHA to engage prospective investors for the construction of the port.

He disclosed that 42 local and international entities have already expressed interest in investing in the project, underscoring growing confidence in the Port of Keta initiative. He further announced that the project’s office complex, currently under construction, is expected to be completed and operational by January 2027.

As part of the ceremony, a symbolic copy of the EIA Certificate was presented to Togbui Sri III. The Anlo State Overlord expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the GPHA Board of Directors, and the Authority’s management for their commitment to bringing the long-awaited Port of Keta project to fruition.
The event also featured a stakeholder sensitisation forum aimed at informing traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and other key stakeholders about the acquisition of the EIA permit and outlining the next phases of the project’s implementation.

The successful acquisition and presentation of the EIA Certificate represent a crucial step toward the realization of the Port of Keta, a flagship infrastructure project expected to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance maritime trade in the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.
