Hohoe Court Sentences Man to Four Years for Stealing Church Sound Equipment

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Hohoe Circuit Court after pleading guilty to stealing musical equipment from a church in the Volta Region.

According to a police statement issued on June 9, 2026, the incident took place on June 5 when Mohammed Rafiu was seen near Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack filled with various items while attempting to board a vehicle.

His behaviour raised suspicion among nearby residents, who stopped him and checked the contents of the sack.

The inspection uncovered several pieces of equipment belonging to the church, including an amplifier, mixer, equalizer, and crossover machine.

Rafiu was immediately arrested and handed over to the Hohoe Police District for further investigations.

During questioning, he confessed to unlawfully entering the church premises and stealing the items.

He was subsequently arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to two charges: unlawful entry and stealing.

The court sentenced him to three years imprisonment for unlawful entry and four years imprisonment for stealing. However, the sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a maximum jail term of four years.

Police said the conviction highlights their commitment to safeguarding public property and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
