The Ministry of the Interior has suspended, with immediate effect, the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following allegations of regulatory violations during a security operation at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations suggest that personnel of the company allegedly used unapproved uniforms and were in unauthorised possession and use of firearms, ammunition, and other security accoutrements while providing private security services.
The Ministry stated that the alleged actions may constitute breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security organisations in Ghana.

It described the use of unprescribed uniforms and the unauthorised possession and use of firearms by private security personnel as serious offences with significant implications for public safety and national security.
As a result, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to cease all operations immediately pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The Ministry has also advised all public and private institutions to suspend any business engagements with the company until further notice.
In addition, the company has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all relevant information to support a comprehensive investigation.
The Ministry emphasised that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety while investigations continue, adding that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law upon completion of the probe.
The public has been encouraged to report any unlawful activities involving private security organisations and their personnel to the nearest police station. The Ministry also reminded all licensed private security organisations to comply strictly with the Ghana Police Service’s public notice on uniform compliance issued on February 5, 2026.
Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing regulatory standards within the private security sector, the Ministry stressed that it will not hesitate to take decisive action against any private security organisation found to have violated the law.
The statement was signed by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, MP.
