Judicial Service Urges Courts to Adjourn Cases as Flooding Disrupts Accra

The Judicial Service has advised judges, magistrates and court staff to prioritise their safety following Monday’s heavy rainfall, which caused severe flooding across several parts of Accra.

In a circular issued on Monday, June 29, 2026, Deputy Judicial Secretary Justice Dr. Cyracus B. Bapuuroh announced that the directive was issued on the instructions of the Chief Justice in response to the worsening weather conditions.

The circular encouraged judicial officers and staff who had not yet travelled to work to do so only when it was safe, while observing all necessary safety precautions.

Judges and magistrates were also advised to postpone court proceedings if litigants, lawyers, witnesses or other court users were unable to attend because of the flooding.

“The safety, health and welfare of all Judges, Staff and Court Users remain of paramount importance to the Judicial Service.”

The Judicial Service further urged all judges, magistrates and staff to take the necessary measures to safeguard their well-being and avoid exposing themselves to unnecessary danger.

The directive comes after persistent rainfall on Monday led to widespread flooding in parts of Accra, disrupting transport, business activities and other public services, while emergency responders continue rescue operations in affected communities.
