Diesel prices remain a key driver of economic activity, influencing transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, and the cost of goods and services across Africa. Lower diesel prices help businesses reduce operating costs and can ease inflationary pressures.
According to the latest June 2026 figures released by Global Petrol Prices, Libya continues to have the cheapest diesel in Africa, selling at just $0.023 per litre. The country’s vast crude oil reserves and generous government fuel subsidies have enabled it to maintain some of the world’s lowest fuel prices despite ongoing political and economic challenges.

North African countries continue to dominate the rankings. Algeria takes second place on the continent with diesel priced at $0.232 per litre, followed by Egypt at $0.412 per litre. Angola ranks fourth at $0.458 per litre, while Sudan rounds out the top five with diesel selling at $0.656 per litre.
The remaining countries in the top 10 are Tunisia ($0.743), Gabon ($0.998), Niger ($1.073), Nigeria ($1.085), and Ethiopia ($1.117) per litre.

The rankings reflect the significant impact of domestic oil production, government subsidies, taxation, and fuel pricing policies on diesel costs across the continent. Oil-producing nations generally benefit from lower prices, while countries that rely heavily on imported petroleum products tend to face higher fuel costs due to international market fluctuations and exchange rate pressures.

Compared with May 2026, diesel prices declined slightly in Algeria, Tunisia, Niger, and Libya, while Egypt, Angola, Ethiopia, and Gabon recorded increases. Diesel prices in Libya and Sudan remained unchanged. Global Petrol Prices updates its fuel price data regularly, with figures varying weekly or monthly depending on the country.
