Military Officer Remanded in Kumasi Murder Case After Alleged Fatal Shooting of Civil Engineer

A 27-year-old soldier has been remanded into custody by the Akropong District Court over the alleged killing of a civil engineer at the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command Headquarters in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The accused, identified as Private Nsarkoh Christopher Nkyinkyi, is facing a murder charge following the death of 29-year-old engineer Jeffrey Boakye Danquah.
According to police prosecutors, the incident happened after a misunderstanding at the military facility, during which the officer allegedly fired an M16 rifle at close range, striking the victim in the chest. The bullet reportedly passed through his body, leading to his death.
The prosecution, led by officials including ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei of the Suntreso Police District Command, told the court that investigations are still ongoing and requested additional time to complete inquiries. Reports from Crime Check also indicate that authorities are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The court did not take a plea from the accused at this stage and ordered that he remain in custody as investigations continue. The case has been adjourned to June 22, 2026, when prosecutors are expected to provide an update.
The incident, which occurred within a secure military installation at the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command Headquarters, has sparked public concern as investigators continue to piece together what led to the fatal confrontation.
