The Ministry of Health has welcomed the court’s ruling in an assault case involving a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, describing the judgment as a strong affirmation of the need to protect healthcare workers from abuse and violence.
In a statement issued on June 10, 2026, the Ministry expressed its full support for the conviction of Desmond Bosomtwe, who was found guilty of assaulting the health worker while on duty.
The court sentenced Bosomtwe to pay a fine of GHC 1,200, sign a bond to be of good behaviour, stay away from the health facility, and pay GHC 5,000 in compensation to the victim.

According to the Ministry, the ruling sends a clear message that acts of violence against health professionals will not be tolerated and that offenders will face the full force of the law.
The Ministry also commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in investigating and prosecuting the case, which ultimately led to the conviction.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers, the Ministry stated that it will continue to support initiatives that promote professionalism, accountability, and the safety of all health personnel across the country.
The statement was signed by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit.
